Media Monkey: It IS possible to use UNC Paths

So, earlier today I was contemplating how I was going to access the 29,000+ mp3s in my collection that have been moved to a NAS device on my SOHO LAN. Originally I had a mapped drive that while worked was slow, and took a stone age to connect to on Windows startup, and again if the device went to ’sleep’.

There’s got to be a better way….

I am not sure what version started supporting this but using MediaMonkey 3.0.7.1191 I was able to go into my mm.ini file and point to the MM database using a UNC path, properly. YAY! Now, it did require a rescan and a lot of updates to the database but my collection was intact, in the new location, ratingsĀ  present and playable.

The only caveat was that my play counts were lost on this conversion, but that is not such a big deal since I backed up the database and can simply to an update statement from one to the other to restore the play counts (If I feel like they are that important).
